Popular riverfront café-bar Dyls in York is set to be taken over by Sophie Knight, a young York independent cafe owner on Lendal Bridge.
At the end of the month, the 27-year-old who has been operating her cafe SOPHiE for three years, will be taking over one of the city’s most beloved restaurants.
After 12 years in charge of the space, Jan Dyl has announced on social media that he was selling his eccentric café-bar located in the former historic Skeldergate Bridge.
On their Dyls York Instagram, Jan said: “Making the decision to sell Dyls has been one of the toughest we’ve made. Years of dedication, hard work, and striving to be the best we possibly can has taken its toll, and we feel it’s time to let someone with new ideas and inspiration continue its legacy, which we know many of you have grown to love.
Our last planned day is Sunday 21st of April, which means we have a short amount of time to say our thank yous and goodbyes.. we want to see as many of you as possible!”
For all customers of Dyls York, new or regulars, they will be throwing a huge party on Sunday 21st April at 4 pm to end the years of service on a high, complete with free food, live music and plenty of drinks.
On Sophie Knights’ business Instagram, she announced the exciting news in a few short words. “WE’VE GOT SOME NEWS. SOPHiE NO.2 Skeldergate Bridge coming soon…” – as she posed in front of the beautiful riverside building.
For any new customers to SOPHiE, it is a beautiful, independent coffee shop that makes the perfect spot for a quiet coffee, a catch-up with friends over cocktails or to enjoy some peaceful alone time.
Serving up the most delicious treats including indulgent milkshakes, fresh pastries from local bakers and all the baked goods you desire, they also regularly host fun evenings such as ‘Fizz & Fondue’ and ‘The Cake & Cocktail Book Club’.
