The hunt is on for Yorkshire’s BIGGEST carnivore at Prashad Bradford
//= get_the_date( 'dS F Y' ); ?>Calling all carnivores! Award-winning Indian restaurant Prashad Bradford is looking for Yorkshire’s most committed meat eaters… to try and turn them flexitarian. And they’re putting their money where their mouth is, by offering the food for free.
- Yorkshire have one of the lowest % of vegetarians and vegans in the UK*
- Prashad wants to ‘convert a carnivore’ with their vegetarian Indian cuisine
- Five staunch carnivores will be invited to take part and enjoy a free meal for two
- Nominate yourself or someone you know via Prashad’s social media pages

As a Yorkshire institution, Prashad restaurant have been cooking up vegetarian Indian food for over 30 years, and shot to fame as runners-up in Gordon Ramsay’s search for the UK’s best restaurant.
Since then, they’ve picked up accolades aplenty, winning Restaurant of the Year at the 2023 Oliver awards, as well as featuring on the BBC’s Hairy Bikers Go Local and Tom Kerridge’s Hidden Hospitality.
Now they’re on a mission to convert Yorkshire’s carnivores with their 100% vegetarian and vegan menu. And they’re so confident you’ll enjoy it, they’re prepared to feed you for free.
“We get all kinds of people dining with us at Prashad, from lifelong vegans to those who’ve never eaten vegetarian food in their life” says Bobby Patel, who runs Prashad in Bradford with wife and Head Chef, Minal Patel.
“We’re inviting five committed carnivores to bring someone along and enjoy a meal for two on us, to see if we can change their mind about vegetarian food.”
A recent UK-wide survey ranked Yorkshire second from bottom, with just 7.2% of the population identifying as vegan or vegetarian, compared to the 10.5% national average, and well below London’s numbers with 1 in 5 eating a meat-free diet*.
But Prashad in Bradford are on a mission to change that. They’re inviting you to nominate a committed carnivore to take part in their ‘Convert a Carnivore’ movement.
It could be you, or someone you know. But hurry, you’ve got until midnight on Sunday 12th May to get your nominations in, and be rewarded with a free meal from Prashad if selected.
“When people think Indian food, they often think of Chicken Kormas and Vindaloos, but there’s so much more to it” says Minal, who grew up cooking vegetarian and vegan food in Gujarat.
“Vegetarian food is at the heart of Prashad, so our dishes never feel like they’re missing something.”
Since taking over the Prashad kitchen in Bradford from her in-laws in the early 2000s, Minal’s 7-course tasting menu has earned her a coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand every year for the past 11 years, along with two AA Rosettes, and a host of celebrity fans.
Minal wants to introduce even more people across Yorkshire to vegetarian food, hoping her skills in the kitchen will convert some carnivores to a flexitarian, or even vegetarian diet.
“If you think a meal needs meat to be complete, we want to hear from you”, adds Minal.
Are you Yorkshire’s biggest carnivore? Do you know a committed carnivore? Then head to Prashad’s Instagram page or Facebook page to nominate and for more information.
